SUMMARY

Given the site's proximity to the South Pennine Moors, Special Protection Area (SPA), Special Area of Conservation (SAC), and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), birds of European Designation were taken into account during the early stages of the development. To provide a suitable habitat for species like the Golden Plover, specialist surveys were conducted by Ascerta to evaluate how the species used the site. The local council had previously conducted surveys on the site. Leveraging this data, and engaging closely with the client, it was imperative to complete the necessary work within the optimal timeframe without affecting the planning application. We collaborated closely with our landscaping team to ensure that the public open space (POS) areas retained habitats, and to accommodate an existing public footpath network within the site.
