SUMMARY

A slightly unusual project this one given that the foundation of the proposed building (an annexe to the existing property) was already in situ. The concrete base from a previous garage was to be utilised for a new building, however, the local planning authority needed to establish whether the depth of the concrete base was sufficient to cope with any movement created by the moisture absorbing effects of the nearby trees, some of which were growing immediately adjacent the concrete slab. The construction proposal was ambitious given the proximity of the trees, however, approval was gained once the planning officer was comfortable with the details submitted.
